How are you?
Who are you? Who are you really?
What are you looking for? What are you thinking?
Where are you from? What influences you?
Who influences you?How is life? What is life?
What brought you here? What made you read this? Why are you reading this?
What is the time? Do you have time? Is this a waste of time? What is wasting time?
What is wasting your time? Does this text interest you? What do you see?
Do you like what you see? What are you really seeing?
What is it that you really want to see? Do you see design? What is design?
What is design to you? What do you think of design?
These questions are endless.
They are tired. They need space. They need to be some where without people.
He sits on the bench staring at the sky through the roof, creating images of perfection.
She sits with her dress pulled up to her knees beside the water, drawing excitement on the water.
Across the water lies another creative mind down on the grass, looking at the leafs above his head, building patterns, generating ideas.
This is the vision behind OOP., creating a space where students of design may find a place of creative rejuvenation. A place designed for pure relaxation, but where you can still enjoy a creative environment on your own or with friends outside of a busy design studio.
You find yourself in OOP. You find yourself being OOP.
creating, making, relaxing, designing, OOP.
(OOP. was an landscape design project as an extension for a student cafe. The main concepts behind its design, was a place for meditation and to use the space where it will be developed to connect the buildings it borders, but still remain as an open space.)
Derived from Johannes, which is a variant of John.
Johannes is the designers’ second name and the design being
influenced by his life, the name was a obvious choice.
The name has a very personal connection with the designer and
gives a certain personality to the design.
Joha represents the movement in the life of its creator.
One can relate to the designer by looking at the color, white meaning the known,
the solid certain part of your life and the gradient resembles moving into the unknown, the uncertain but filled with many opportunities which was influenced by your past.
The creator portrays his theory of life through Joha, that “yesterday influenced today.”, meaning that what happened
in your past, is the reason for what you are doing at the moment.
(Joha was a final 2nd year project at the college I’m currently studying at.)
Today I had the, lets call it, opportunity to meet a fellow craftsman of my trade, furniture design. He had the advantage of years of wisdom, money, house, clients and a massive ego. But I want to learn design, so I saw this as something new.
He was showing his portfolio with the designs he has made and crafted throughout his career and it was good, definitely not my taste or style, but yet aesthetically appealing. I could see he was a fine craftsman and has many to teach. Yet the one thing that but me off, was the fact that through his years of designing, he always did the same thing. But that was OK, that was his way, I’m still learning.
After the man had shown us, me and my fellow student Joe, His portfolio and explained the way he works and creates his designs, he began to tell us that design is all about yourself. That mostly anything goes in design these days, that you can do anything and promote it as design. And right there I was overcome with extreme disgust!! And that is something I’ve been noticing more and more in the design world, that companies are under some one’s name, websites are personsname.com.
To be honest with you, my reader, if design is about this, about the designer itself, I am not going to get along with most designers. Yep, I understand recognition and that its moral to give it to a great designer/artist, but being this full of yourself and not really appealing to a wide variety of people, was truly discouraging to say the least.
And this is why I have great appreciation for the designer/architect Ron Arad. Great designer, even greater man!
What is the purpose of this word, this education, this job? Is there a real definition behind this people changing word? Does it have a true meaning to design? The closest I’ve come to completely understand this one word phrase is, Design, as my current lecture describes it, is a problem solving activity.
Then why the hell do we make it so difficult? MONEY, $$$, deniro, what ever you want to call it. And if you differ from me, please come visit me in Marbella and see, hell no, come experience it for yourself. This place is prove that customer gets what customer wants, when the price is right, no matter what design principles.
My passion is to design and yep i want to make a living of it, but i just can’t believe it that people would give-up their passion and education because of money, that hurts!
